Blog blog blog (and de/leveling)
Ah the joys and pains of a blog: i would like to write something every day or every week. Or... at least regularly, but time is running, even more with a family. Anyways, since my family is gone for the week i have some spare time to waste. Ill try to do an additional entry. Actually im starting it right now i see, errhm...
Ok.
So.
What happened in RC and SS2 then the last month? Nothing earth shaking i think. The Sigma Stars/ROTTK squabble on gaining fXP by de/leveling, including a seriously derailed thread (go to the SS2 forums and find it for yourself, im still lazy. Although it was heavily pruned by BG). Actually this led to the formation of the "anti deleveling group" of some factions (which seems to have gone already, as at the time of this posting i find no more references to it in the relevant bios or faction histories...).
Yeah, de/leveling.
For all you folks not knowing what im talking about: Its a thing you do when you reach end of content (EOC). Say the max available critter level is L200. After you have reached L201 you will only get 1/2 the (f)XP as before, as you are killing below your own level. Now you go to the pyramid, strip your gear and hope thtat there is an entity to hammer on. But instead of killing it, you WANT to get killed. By every death you loose some XP (but the faction will NOT loose fXP!!). When you have reached L200 or L199 again you start to relevel up. Rinse-Repeat.
Doesnt sound interesting? You are right. But if you have waited for content for 3 or more weeks you are glad to kill an entity again and gain some XP.
Now whats all the fuzz about when you loose the XP then?
The point is - the faction doesnt loose a single fXP when you delevel. The outcome is that you will on average gain much more fXP for the faction if you de/level overandoverandover again. This way you will fall on the personal ladder, but your faction will benefit. Which means - the more you do that the better for your faction.
I personally consider that legit, as was also stated by HCS. You have the energy, and its up to you to use it in a way you like. In the end its all about supporting your faction (and gaining much more credits btw). The point of the other factions was that this will distort the faction ranking.
I dont see this.
To severely have an impact on the ladder every EOC member would have to do that, constantly. I dont see this, even in the top factions. In principle the top factions with much EOC players would benefit the most, making it harder for the other factions to catch up. Yep, thats true.
So on the other hand we, the not-top3 factions should be glad to NOT get too much content, as with new content the situation would exactly be the same. So in the end the de/leveling effect is a direct consequence to HCS not delivering fast content. But as not every EOC player is de/leveling that still is good, hehe. And de/leveling gives you only 1/2 the XP you would get from new content (you need 1 energy to kill and 1 energy to get killed, roughly).
So, thanks HCS to give us the opportunity to catch up. Even with de/leveling in effect

Re: Blog blog blog (and de/leveling)
Hehe good blog entry. I HATE delevelling, only done it once or twice but I had a bad connection that day so it took FOREVER. Probably won't do it again for awhile. The content seems to be coming quicker though, even if its in 5 level chunks (hopefully this will change back in the next bit of content)
I chose to play a little slower so as not to catch up to EOC too quick, but this seems to not be possible anymore, and I suppose I'll get there soon too.
I don't mind delevelling, but I hate it when my character dies, so I don't think I'll ever do it.
Thanks for the entry Nestor!
